31. Januar 2009

I have been really, really busy the last couple of weeks, so I haven't updated anything in here. I apologize. I mean, I'm sure you have been dying to know what was happening. Or maybe not..
ANYWAYS;

Last week and this week, I had tech crew every day after school! From 3.30 to 8-8.30 pm!
So yeah, they were doing a musical called Thoroughly Modern Millie. It's a really cheesy story, but it's really funny and it has a lot of fun songs and dances and stuff like that. So even though I watched it 11 times, I didn't get tired of it.
My job was to direct one of the two followspots from the catwalk (above the audience) during songs mostly. Sometimes when they were just talking, but mostly songs.
The first week we just practised and found out how we were supposed to move with the actors (I mean, they dance, so it definitely helps to know how they will move on stage). Then week 2, we had performances. Tuesday was open dress rehearsal, so there was an audience, and Wednesday, Thursday and Friday were actually performances. The second week was so much fun!
The shows didn't start until 7 pm, so we had to be there at 6, which meant that we had a bit of time to chill before we had to be back at school. I hung out with LeighAnn, who is in the orchestra for the musical -keyboard, most of the days, but also with Glenn and Daniel some other days. They are all great friends. So after school we would go get coffee or food, and then head back when it was time (6-6.30 pm) , do the show (7 - 10 pm) , chill a little bit more (10.30 pm), and then I'd go home, shower (11 pm), do homework (11.30 pm) and finally crash at midnight. Luckily, I didn't have a lot of homework, because I don't take a lot of classes that require homework, and I had a free period every day at school, where I could work on some of it. I do not understand at all how the &!%#§ normal kids could do that. Because they actually had tons of work to do every night (well, most of them had break downs, but I mean.. wauw).
But it was so totally worth it! I had a loooooot of fun! My techies are the best; Laura, Tyler Cooke, Tyler L, Allison, Chase and JT - we had a great time and worked very well as a team.
Yesterday, Friday, was our last performance, so there was a cast party afterwards! We all went to Laura Nelson's house (yepp, the girl on tech crew. She is also in my Chinese class actually) and had food, cake and watched the musical on DVD. The one we did. Someone filmed it. I hope I can get a copy and bring it back home. It's a great musical. I will miss it!
After the cast party, I went to Glenn's house with Jake, Daniel, Alex Jordan and Katherine Brigman - Glenn's younger sister. We watched a movie and.. yeah. It was a great night.

On Sunday, I think I am going to watch Torrey (one of my sophomore friends) do a cheerleader competition thingy! I think it'll be interesting..

I hope y'all are doing well,
Camille

20. Januar 2009

Finally, Obama's inauguration! We watched all of it live at school today! It was very interesting.. But I mean, I bet y'all saw it anyways, so no reason to describe what happened.

Besides that, my weekend was awesome! Well, basketball game on friday. Then on Saturday, Agnes wanted tickets for the jewish film festival, that is going on in Atlanta, but there were no good movies apparently. So instead, she found out there was a Danish film festival also! We got tickets for "With Your Permission", or "Til Døden Os Skiller". Agnes decided we should have Danish food also, but since they are no Scandinavian restaurants in Atlanta, she thought of.. IKEA! Yes. Ikea. So we (Steve, Agnes, Glenn, Rachel - a Westminster senior, my friend, and me) went to eat dinner at Ikea. The we went to the Woodruff Art Center to
watch the movie. Of course, a lot of Danish people were there. It was
nice to listen to some Danish - in real life. I wanted to talk to someone, but I couldn't find anything to say.. BUT then, the director of the movie, Paprika Steen showed up! I saw her standing in the back of the room, and got really excited. Glenn and Rachel convinced me to go talk to her - so I did. She said I had a very American accent when I spoke Danish. I did notice it myself. It was weird. But she was really nice! I didn't think Atlanta would be the place to meet Paprika Steen.. But yeah, life is full of surprises!
Sunday and Monday, we had an AFS mid-stay orientation. It was really awesome! Some of the kids were missing ( baah )-: ), but we had a great time. We were all at Ruth's house. We went to hear/see a lot of stuff about Dr, Martin Luther King Jr., since it was MLK's day on Monday (we had the day off because of that), and such a big part of American history/culture. We even visited the house he grew up in!
We cooked, we played games, we stayed up all night.. That kind of stuff. We r
eally get along well.
Then, when I came back, Monday afternoon, LeighAnn picked me up, and took me to Willy's. Willy's is a mexican fast food restaurant, and it is absolutely amazing. I go there a lot actually.
It was a great weekend!

Today, I started Tech Crew (again) for the Musical. I do the light. It's.. okay. But it's only a week, so it's not too bad.
Soon, Track & Field practise will start.. It's going to be hard work. But fun! A
t least, I hope so.

I hope y'all are great back in Europe!

Like pretty much every Friday in the winter sport season, there is a basketball game tonight. So because of that, we had a pep rally at school! Yay! Pep rallies are so much fun.
The JV and Varsity (JV, junior varsity - 9th and 10th. Varsity - 11th and 12th grade) cheerleaders perform their cheers and dances and whatever. The video is one of them. The one they perform every time actually. You can pretty much see the traditions (every grade tries to make the most noise. And the seniors always get to run in to the middle and shortly have a party in the middle) when you watch it.
Then there are always some games that the cheerleaders prepare - at least I think they do.. Haha. So sometimes the grades compete and sometimes it is just people. So if the cheerleaders call your name, you have to come participate in one of the games. It is always very entertaining to watch!
Anyways, this was my last pep rally, since they don't have any for the spring season ):

Steve, Agnes and I went to see the games (girls and boys basketball). It was super awesome! They played Blessed Trinity, another private school of Atlanta.
There weren't a a lot of people in the beginning, for girls basketball, but when the boys started playing, there were tons of westminster kids! Of course not as many as for the football games, but still a lot. People were yelling and cheering and having fun. It was awesome! And we won!

Oh well, I thought this video was funny, so I wanted to share it with y'all. And then a bit of culture notes. Haha!
- Okay apparently, it won't upload it. I'll try again tomorrow.
Oh, I found out why it doesn't work. It can only upload 100mb, and the video is like 157.

14. Januar 2008

Wow! There is only 6 days left until Obama's inauguration!
I am excited about it. Not because I think he can create miracles and save this country, but more about the fact that Bush's time is over. That man just got the US in a lot of trouble (and in a lot of debt).
Anyways, at school we will celebrate this day (not because they support Obama, but just the whole presidential system) and watch the inauguration live in an assembly. Interesting..

The las couple of days have been.. chill. School started again and another semester begins. And not just another, the second one, the last one. Suddenly I feel like I have SOOOO much stuff to do, and that there is no way I have enough time! I just can't realize that one semester has already gone by. It's crazy. But this experience has been and is absolutely amazing. I enjoy every single second of it!

But anyways, Carolina went back to St. Louis on Sunday, which means that it is only Steve, Agnes and me in the house. It sure is more quiet ;)
I still spend most my free time with LeighAnn.. And I read Twilight when she does college applications. Haha. Basically, we spend a lot of time together.

Last weekend, I went to Decatur to visit Alessandra. I went with the Marta! (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority - Atlanta's public transportation. So I went with Atlanta's metro basically) It really reminded me of Paris. A lot. I don't really know why.. But I enjoyed it a lot! I mean, I miss my dear S-toge and busses!
We spend the first night at her liason's house, and had a lot of fun. We watched Walt Disney's The Aristocats and Mama Mia!, ate popcorn and just had fun talking. The next day, we just hung out with some of her friends from school. It was fun to meet some other young people, than those from the fancy private schools in Buckhead.
I had a great time.

I got invited to the Dominican Republic for Spring break (last week of March/first of April) by LeighAnn and her family! We finally bought my plane ticket today! YAY!!! I'm so so so excited. It looks so amazingly beautiful! It'll be greatest thing ever. Especially when I will be there with the McKinleys! (LeighAnn's family)
- Tak til måtter for den finansielle støtte.

Well.. That's it.
I hope y'all are doing great!

3. Januar 2009

It's weird that I always write the blog title in Danish, but the blog itself in English. Oh well, whatever.
I also changed the layout. I thought I needed a change.

I realized that I hadn't updated this for a long time. But I mean, it's been break, so I have been busy doing all kinds of other stuff!

Christmas was a lot of fun. It was really different though. I am used to Christmas lasting all of December, but here, it was only the 25th that was Christmas-y.
We woke up the 25th, and in the living room, there were tons of presents! It took us a while to open all of them, and it was awesome. I got a loooot of stuff! I'll post a picture.

I hung out with LeighAnn, Carolina & Glenn and some of Carolina's friends, and Marina the following days. One of the days Carolina and I went to Athens to help Marina arranging her new room (she moved recently). That sure was a different part of this country. And it is only 1 hour from Buckhead!
Apparently, the Athens-Clarke county, is one of the poorest in the country - if not the poorest. And that showed. Most of what we saw was kind of nice, because it all was student housing (UGA - University of Georgia, is situated in Athens), which is a big part, since UGA is such a big university. And then, there is all the government housing.
In the end, it just means that the county doesn't get a lot of money and that it all stays poor. Which is sad.

On the 30th, we went to a concert in Athens! I went with Carolina, Glenn and Anna and William - some of Carolina's friends. We went to see Of Montreal. It was probably the best show I have ever been to. It was crazy! Of Montreal's shows are always crazy, because they have all those dancers in costumes on stage and lightshows and stuff like that, but this one was even better, because it was a smaller venue.
The best part was when those dancers came down from the stage, and started dancing with the crowd. And when they put red paint on us, and we put it all over our faces. It was so much fun.
Afterwards, we went to get some pizza, waiting for the guys that went to another concerts, and who we were sharing a hotelroom with, to come out and join us.
They joined us pretty quickly, and we just went to the hotel, slept, woke up next morning and went home.

For new years ever, Cammie came over. Agnes and Steve went to some friends' house, Carolina went to a concert with Glenn and Marina left for Colorado to go snowboard.
So we were just by ourselves. Which was cool. We talked, had our own little dance party, drank Coca-Cola in stead of Champagne, and watched some big ball dropping slowly in NYC.

I have spend the last couple of days with the Cullens (the family that was supposed to host me this semester). The kids, Gibbs and Joe (junior and freshman) are awesome! And so are the parents. We went out to eat a lot, went to the movies and just chilled at home. It was a lot of fun. I really like that family..

I think that's all..
Happy new year to all of you!
